Adam, can you briefly walk us through your story – how you started and how you got to where you are today.Meet Adam Vital of A Vital Business Growth Solutions in The Woodlands
I am proud to be a native Houstonian, having grown up in the third ward area and attended Jack Yates High School. I have fond memories of humble beginnings in a small home that was within 20 yards of a railroad track; freight trains passed by several times on a daily basis. A strong foundation of values was impressed upon me at very early age: Accountability, Excellence, Integrity. Here is a sampling of regular counsel from my mother: 1) “Whenever you take on a task or job, make sure that it’s done well, or don’t do it at all.” 2)”Always strive for excellence and be the best you can be.” 3) “Make sure that you always do a good day’s work, in return for a good day’s pay.” The repetition and consistency of these admonitions made an enormous impact on a young mind. Of course, my mother never finished high school but understood the fundamentals of creating healthy habits: She was always quick to reinforce her guidance and directives with praise or disciplinary action as appropriate to the particular situation.

After high school, I went off to college at the University of Missouri where I played football (as a walk-on) on a team that is recognized by some to be one of best, if not the best in the history of Mizzou. The Mizzou football team walk-on experience is a story unto itself, and I won’t go into detail; however, suffice it to say that it taught me a lot about focus, perseverance, and determination.

I am very competitive and results oriented by nature and, after college, I had the good fortune to have the opportunity to channel that energy into a very satisfying and rewarding career at AT&T (Southwestern Bell at the time). In over 42 years with AT&T, I had the opportunity to work in many places across the country, acquire a master’s degree and gain an appreciation for people of various backgrounds and perspectives.

After retirement, I had a strong desire for sharing the valuable expertise and insights I gained over the years to help businesses, so I decided to do some consulting. More than 20 years in executive positions provided me with substantial expertise in all aspects of leadership, oversight and running businesses; however, I particularly enjoyed planning and execution on strategies to accelerate sales and revenue growth. Inspired by this passion, I guided my teams at AT&T in growing revenues by hundreds of millions of dollars. In short, I have the expertise and remain inspired by an intense desire to help my clients’ businesses drive growth.

We’re always bombarded by how great it is to pursue your passion, etc – but we’ve spoken with enough people to know that it’s not always easy. Overall, would you say things have been easy for you?
Starting a new business has been challenging, but not something with which I am unfamiliar. I have experience in starting up new ventures with AT&T, so I know that it takes a good well thought out plan, along with consistent, disciplined execution to ensure success.

So let’s switch gears a bit and go into the A Vital Business Growth Solutions story. Tell us more about the business.
A Vital Business Growth Solutions helps telecom and technology service providers increase sales velocity and accelerate revenue growth. With more than 20 years as an AT&T executive, I have led teams to grow revenue by hundreds of millions of dollars. My experience and expertise span a full gamut of key business management and leadership functions relative to planning, strategy and disciplined execution to achieve sustained improvement in results. The overarching approach is that of creating a winning sales culture. This process involves a disciplined planning and implementation framework; employee development with inspired coaching; performance management; and, mutual accountability in regards to the manager and employee.

As a company, what I am most proud of, is also what sets us apart from others. That is, we combine management theory with a successful track record of hands-on experience in getting results. I am passionate about our work and, once establishing goals for a given client’s project, we guarantee results.

Has luck played a meaningful role in your life and business?
I am a big believer in the Latin phrase “Amat Victoria Curam” – That is, victory or success favors preparation. Undoubtedly, I’ve had the good fortune to be successful in life and have met along the way some people who have provided support and guidance that has benefitted me immensely. Nevertheless, I believe hard work, preparation, and a commitment to excellence have been the keys to my success thus far and will be for the future as well.

Certainly, like everyone else, I’ve had fortuitous circumstances and unfortunate ones; however, I have always operated under the following approach: Prepare for the worst; yet, remain optimistic and expect the best. Most importantly, control what you can, and optimize the hand that is dealt. In short, I focus on to moderating the impact of adverse situations, just as I strive to make the most of the opportunities for those pleasant surprises that sometimes occur in life. In short, I work for the most positive outcome in any given situation and remain confident of my ultimate success.
